HSE Faculty of Mathematics

National Research University Higher School of Economics is a leading state-funded university in Russia. The Faculty of Mathematics was established in 2008, and since then it has become Russia’s most successful institution for attracting researchers and students in mathematics. The Faculty of Mathematics offers undergraduate, Master’s and PhD programs in Mathematics.

The MSc program is a two-year, full-time program. All MSc students draw up an Individual Study Plan (ISP). The ISP includes a few mandatory components; most courses, however, are chosen by students from more than 60 elective courses and research seminars. A course project must be completed by the end of the first year. By the end of the program, students are required to submit a Master’s thesis and present their results in a seminar. Every MSc student has a faculty adviser, who supervises the course project and the Master’s thesis. The Faculty of Mathematics offers free tuition and scholarships to outstanding applicants.

The Faculty of Mathematics has a four-year PhD program that is tuition-free for all admitted students. Admission to the program requires passing an entrance exam. All successful applicants receive a tuition waiver, university accommodation for a nominal fee, and a scholarship.
